here i am, a day after the philippine elections, with traces of purple still upon my right index finger. i have voted.
6:00am.
my phone falls off the bedside table during the middle of its alarm. i pick it up, go back to sleep, and set the alarm to 6:30am.
7:30am.
i wake up and realize that setting my alarm for 6:30am was just a dream.
8:40somethingam.
my mom drives me to the elementary school where my precinct was. we walk up to the school, but overhear that there are a lot of people in line. we go back to the car and decide to come back later.
11:30somethingam.
it's later. we actually get into the school this time. my mom is overwhelmed by the amount of people scrambling to find their precinct or waiting in line to vote. i see a friend of mine who also is registered to vote. my gives up and brings me back home, but not before a long lecture on the way home about my safety and stampedes. this ended with "i'm not going to let you go back there...unless you really want to vote."
12:00pm
"i want to vote."
12:40pm
my mom drives me back to the elementary school. i go at it on my own. i probably walked around that school around 5 times looking for my precinct before thinking to go to the people with the laptops. apparently i was given the wrong precinct at first and i was looking at the wrong sheets. and there was something about clusters...yeah.
1:00somethingpm.
i find my precinct! signed my name in the log book with the priority number of 218. they last called 132. this was the log book with the priority number to get the priority number to vote.
*wait* i spent this time listening to my fellow precinct-mates arguing about the system that they had, playing brick breaker on my cell phone, calling a friend because i got board of playing my cell phone game, meeting my friend who just finished voting, drinking a whole bottle of iced tea that my friend bought for me...
3:00somethingpm
my name is called! i get priority number 23 and head to the voting area. my bladder feels like it's about to explode. they call number 10 and i'm seriously thinking about looking for a bathroom. i hold it in.
get my ballot, vote for who i know to vote for...hold in my pee...worry about the marker bleeding through to the other side, get in line to put my ballot in the pcos machine, overhear that someone's ballot got rejected, put my ballot in the pcos machine..."verifying...verifying...CONGRATULATIONS!", proceed to the lady with the indelible ink...
and huzzah. i finished voting.
pretty epic. first experience voting. first automated elections.
and oh yeah, after that my mom picked me up and we drove to the nearest place with a restroom.
mr. aquino...i hope you do this country some good...
